On 18th Street in Pilsen, vibrant murals abound: it is also the home of Chef Alfonso’s restaurants. 5 Rabanitos is on the corner of 18th and Wood; a few doors down, across from Harrison Park, is Fiesta Tamaleria El Barrio. One block away is the National Museum of Mexican Art, featuring a permanent collection of Mexican, Chicano and Latino art, as well as exhibits, festivals and performances. What follows is a love letter to the barrio — an expression of appreciation and gratitude for everyone whose blood, sweat, and tears, have made our neighborhood a cultural destination.
